The good: Three HDMI inputs; excellent sound quality for a sound bar home theater system; no AV receiver required; capable of switching between six devices.

The bad: IR receiver on the subwoofer limits its placement options; subwoofer isn't wireless; cluttered remote.

The bottom line: Sony's HT-CT150 sound bar home theater system sounds great and is way ahead of the competition with its three HDMI inputs; however, its IR receiver limits the subwoofer's placement options.

You say you want a home theater system but those 5.1 channel and 7.1 channel systems seem too complicated, too expensive and just plain too much. For some people they seem like overkill. If you're one of them, the Sony HT-CT150 3.1 Channel Home Theater System might be exactly what you've been looking for.

A 3.1 system is simple. Think of a regular two speaker stereo system. Add a center speaker and a subwoofer and voila! You've got a 3.1 channel home theater that's easy to set up, easy on the pocketbook and a joy to use.

We don't think it gets any simpler than the CT150. It's a 3.1 channel system with only two main parts! The left, center and right speakers are all contained in a single sound bar that's just 31 1/2 inches (800 mm) wide. It will look great on your TV stand. With a little bit of additional hardware (not included) you can even hang it from the wall.

If you take a look at the Specifications tab you might think we've made a mistake at first. All of the inputs and outputs and sound processors are listed under the Subwoofer section. That's no mistake because that's where they're all located. The subwoofer not only puts out those deep bass tones, it's the brains of the operation.

It's got three HDMI inputs and an HDMI output. The HDMI Repeater function allows you to connect multiple devices via HDMI cables and easily switch between them keeping the HDMI signal intact on its way to your TV. Audio Return Channel (ARC) allows audio to be sent from your compatible TV to the system on the same HDMI cable that's sending high definition video and audio to your TV. That can eliminate one more cable from your setup.

The HDMI ports can also pass 3-D signals from a 3-D Blu-ray player or 3-D gaming system through to a 3-D compatible TV or projector. So you can start out very modestly and go all the way to 3-D without having to buy a new home theater. (You'll just need a 3-D compatible TV, 3-D glasses a 3-D compatible Blu-ray player or gaming console and 3-D programming. "Simple" gets a little complicated when you go 3-D.)

To enjoy 3-D you'll want to be sure to use high-speed HDMI cables. With high-speed cables you can also enjoy 1080p (in addition to 720p and 1080i high definition) and Deep Color (more than a billion colors!) on compatible TV sets.

You can also enjoy Blu-ray disc HD Audio. Most new Blu-ray players can output the latest high definition audio formats like Dolby True HD and DTS-HD Master Audio. When your player is connected to your CT150 via HDMI you'll experience audio truer to the way it was captured.

Then there are those touches that make a Sony a Sony. BRAVIA Sync is Sony's brand name for HDMI CEC, the industry standard that allows you to control multiple HDMI-connected devices from a single remote control. The subwoofer's Digital Media Port (DMP) allows you to connect an optional Sony adapter that enables you to plug in your iPod, Walkman or PC-based devices so you can enjoy your portable music through the system.

If you want great sound but you want to keep it simple and affordable, you want the Sony HT-CT150 3.1 Channel Home Theater System.

HDMI Repeater
Connect multiple devices via HDMI to your HTC150, easily switch between them, and then connect everything to your HDTV with just one HDMI cable.
Standby Pass-Through of Audio And Video
Conveniently access all your HDMI connected devices without having to power on the receiver. For instance, when it's late at night and you want to watch a Blu-ray disc and use the TV speakers, the system will accept the audio and video from your Blu-ray player and send it to the TV, even though the HTC150 is in standby mode. (In standby mode the HTC150 draws 0.3 Watts.)
3-D Pass-Through
Enjoy 3-D Blu-ray disc movies, video games and other 3-D content with compatible players and HDTVs.
Blu-ray Disc HD Audio
When you connect via HDMI a Blu-ray Disc player that can output the latest high definition audio formats, including Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio you can experience sound closer to the way it was captured.
Audio Return Channel
Eliminate the need for extra cables connected to your TV. This feature allows audio to be sent from your compatible TV to your HTC150 through the same HDMI cable already being used to send audio and video to your TV.
BRAVIA Sync Capable
Conveniently operate and control all your HDMI connected BRAVIA Sync devices with one remote including: Blu-ray disc Players, BRAVIA HDTVs, home theater products, Handycam camcorders and Cyber-shot digital cameras.
Digital Media Port
Connect an optional Digital Media Port (DMP) adapter (sold separately) to your audio system and access music from your iPod, Walkman player or PC device.
General Information:

Complete your 3D home entertainment experience with simple, yet powerful surround sound. The HT-CT150 32" 3D sound bar home theater system features 3D compatibility and can also be turned into your entertainment hub by connecting multiple HD or 3D devices using a single HDMI cable per device (sold separately). In addition to the latest audio decoding technology, this beautifully sleek sound bar can be easily mounted directly to select BRAVIA TVs, hung on your wall, or placed separately on a shelf.

(oops) IR (infrared) is on woofer. To be clear..the woofer has to be positioned (free and clear) for the remote control to relay a signal to it?
    Question by ET
    11/30/20111
Infrared is line of site so you can't put this behind furniture or behind where you site, which with traditional subs you could.

As stated:"..IR...limits it's placement options". Please clarify it's limitations, what would limit it's placement, exactly? Examples... Thank you
Question by Define IR reciever placement
    11/26/20112
Typically a sub woofer can be placed anywhere in a room and hidden under a coffee table etc. Your ears cannot tell direction in that frequency. Because the IR is on the sub. you will have to consider that and have that placed in front of you for remote reasons. Not really a big deal, we just felt it needed to be known.

Would I be able to connect this to my computer? How would I do that?
    Question by Anna
    9/5/20111
Yes you would! Preferably you will do it digitally but it would require a good sound card that has either digital or optical out, if not you can purchase a mini din to RCA and connect it that way. If this sound difficult please contact our sales team for further assistance.

    Question by luciano

It basically has a HDMI Hub that allows for 3 HDMI inputs IN and 1 output. This is not required to use it is simply there for convenience.

You plug HDMI cables from the HDMI-out ports on your DirecTV box and your PS3 to 2 of the HDMI-in ports on the subwoofer. Then you plug another cable from the HDMI-out on the subwoofer to an HDMI-in on your TV. Voila! You can now switch back and forth depending on whether you're gaming or watching a flick. If you have a DVD player, you can plug that in too. You only need one cable out from the sub to the TV.
